abstract={During an environment summit in Paris on 11 January, donors pledged \$14.3 billion for the creation in Africa by 2030 of a "Great Green Wall". This 8,000 km strip of vegetation is to extend from Senegal to Djibouti to prevent desertification of areas south of the Sahara.
