It also was an opportunity to strengthen multilateral cooperation in the Pacific, as exemplified by the first-ever trilateral summit of the leaders of the U.S., Japan, and the Philippines. Further bilateral and multilateral cooperation will contribute to the stabilisation of East Asia, but may be hampered by a possible isolationist course in U.S. foreign policy after the presidential elections.]]></dc:description>
