Abstrakt:

September’s natural disasters—an earthquake in Morocco and flooding in Libya—led to the deaths of more than 15,000 people (4,000 and 11,000, respectively). Urban population density, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient emergency management contribute to large numbers of victims of natural disasters in the Middle East and North Africa. The frequency of similar events will increase as climate change affects the Mediterranean basin and will contribute to higher migration in the region and to the European Union.
