Abstract:

This year’s midterm congressional elections, scheduled for 3 November, will serve as a referendum on President Donald Trump’s administration. As a result of his economic policies based on the broad use of tariffs, the unpopular war with Iran, and rising living costs, Republicans must brace for defeat. A potential Democratic majority in both chambers of Congress would create a long-term conflict between the legislative branch and Trump, whose term lasts until 2029. Such a majority would also give Democrats significant oversight tools, which would be useful in campaigning ahead of the 2028 elections.
